Wadabagei: A Journal of the Caribbean and Its Global Diasporas

Guidelines for Authors:

Wadabagei is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes work on the Caribbean and the global Caribbean diasporas from diverse perspectives throughout the humanities and social sciences. Scholarly articles, book reviews, interviews, and occasional creative works are considered for inclusion.

Copyright and Permissions Information:

Authors must ensure that they have the consent of all co-authors and any necessary authority for submission. The manuscript must not be submitted to any other journal while being considered for publication in Wadabagei.  Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to assign copyright to Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc.

The Editor will ensure that all reasonable requests to reproduce articles are granted.



  • All documents should be submitted electronically as Microsoft Word attachments to the editor at or  and must be accompanied by a brief biographical sketch and, optionally, a passport size photo.
  • Authors should provide complete contact information including: mailing address, telephone number(s), fax number(s), and an e-mail address.
  • In order to move the review process along smoothly, all correspondence will take place via email. Please ensure your email address is accurate.
  • Manuscripts should be in English; manuscripts in languages other than English will occasionally be accepted.
  • We urge Authors to copy edit all manuscripts for length, grammar, spelling, punctuation, comprehension, and style prior to submission. Authors of critical essays and reviews will be consulted electronically with regard to any substantial editing; they will not be consulted regarding copy editing. 


The following types of manuscripts will be considered:

Submission Procedure:

  • Critical Essays: No more than one essay may be submitted at a time. Critical essays should range    from 7,000 to 9,000 words.
  •  Poems: No more than two poems may be submitted at a time.
  • Fiction: No more than one work of fiction may be submitted. Fiction manuscripts should not exceed 5,000 words.
  • Book Review (or Short Review Essays):Book reviews should not exceed 1,500 words. At the beginning of the review, please include the title of the book being reviewed as well as the book's complete publication information. Books should have been published no more than two years. 
  • Materials published in Wadabagei do not necessarily represent the views of the journal's editors, staff, or the Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc.

  • Articles are usually 7,000 to 9,000 words (approximately 25 pages), but longer or shorter papers will be considered provided they are appropriate to the journal. Abstracts should be no more than 150 words.


  • Because the journal is cross-disciplinary, it is especially important to adopt a style that is user-friendly,  Please ensure your manuscript contains the following: 

 (a) A title/subtitle that signals what the paper is about;.

 (b) A clear paragraph structure;.

 (c) Appropriate subheadings in the body of the paper.

 (d) A cover page that includes the manuscript title, the author’s name as it is to appear in print, the author’s academic degrees, and institutional affiliation.

 (e) On the first page of the manuscript (following the cover page) type ONLY the title of the article. Do not include your name on the first page;

 (f) A conclusion section that summarizes the main arguments of the paper and indicates further direction. Avoid introducing new material in the conclusion.

 (g) Technical terms or academic jargon should be avoided if possible. When employed, they should be clearly defined or illustrated.

 (h) Properly label photographs and illustrations; if applicable, copyright credits and dates must be provided.


Manuscript Preparation:
    • This journal follows the Chicago Manual of Style author-date format for the Social Sciences, and the MLA style for the Humanities.
    • Manuscripts should be in Microsoft Word format, double-spaced, and 12-point Times New Roman font.
    • please prepare  pages for the journal’s 6” x 9” size (width 6” height 9”).
    • Use  subheadings wherever possible. 
    • Include  page numbers in the top right hand corner.
    • Footnotes  or explanatory notes should be used sparingly. 




Wadabagei welcomes volunteer scholars as:

  • Guest Editors for specific thematic editions;
  • Contributing Editors as peer reviewers;
  • Copy editors;
  • Production editors.

Statement of Publication Terms

  • The Author warrants that s/he has the full power to enter into and grant the rights specified below. 
  • The Author affirms that s/he is the sole author of the Work being submitted and that the Work has not been previously published. 
  • The Author grants Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc first publication rights to any submission accepted for publication in Wadabagei, and assigns copyright to CDP Inc. 
  • The Author may reprint the above titled work in a collection of his/her own choice. In addition, the Author may grant someone else permission to reprint the work.  Any reprint must be accompanied by a credit line that takes the following form:

  • The Author agrees to facilitate publication of his/her Work in five ways: (a) provide final, edited copy of the work as an email attachment in Microsoft Word ; (b) provide an abstract of no more than 150 words along with a  brief autobiographical sketch to use with the Work; (c) provide full documentation for any citations, in accordance with the most recent Chicago Manual of Style or MLA Style specifications; (d) verify the accuracy of any quoted material and, when necessary, secure permission(s) to reprint from any third parties; and (e) when required, return corrected page proofs of the Work within two weeks of receiving notice of acceptance for publication in Wadabagei.  
  • The Author grants Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc a permanent, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to copy, publish, or distribute the Work electronically in Wadabagei and to archive the Work. 
  • The Author also grants to Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc the non-exclusive right to republish that work in translation, digest, or abridged form or other derivative form in electronic or print publications.
  • Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc reserves the right to edit submissions to comply with its stylistic requirements. This does not include the right to bowdlerize or to abridge the Work substantially without the Author's permission.
  • Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc agrees to copyright the above listed Work on behalf of the Author. Authors wishing to register individual copyrights must do so themselves.
  • The articles, illustrations, and other content of Wadabagei may be copied for teaching and classroom use and for scholarship and research without first obtaining permission from Wadabagei. These works may not be copied, republished, or reposted, in whole or in part, for any other purpose without the express written permission  of  Caribbean Diaspora Press Inc.
